We, as Warders, have been asked to tell a little about our SCA history. Well, pull up a chair, and grab a drink.

Name

My name is Albyn Buckthorne. Albyn is my middle name in mundania. I had a nickname of Buck at one time, and I grew up near the Thornapple River in Cascade, MI.
Documentation is: Albyn (can substitute y with i, or a)- A 4th/5th century English Saint. Buckthorne - Combination of thing type names was common in period. Buck was easily documented to the male deer, thorne was easily documented as a period word used to describe a thorn. Buckthorne is a bush that could not be documented to period so I had to go about it as previously described.
My name and device (or, a pale gules, overall goats combattant, within a bordure embattled sable) were submitted to the Caid collage of Heralds and approved by the Laural King of Arms in about A.S.27.

History

I was born a Saxon in the Kingdom of Caid in about A.S. 25. In a later life I became a Scot. I was a young Scot in a noble Scottish family. My parents found me a bit troublesome so they made arrangements for me to live with my uncle in England, in the Shire of Al Sahid, where he trained me in the use of wasters (read shinai/light weapons) and later in the use of the bow, and rapier. I also trained under Don Don the Baulde before he was a Don, and Donna Arrabella de Sienna, who later took me on as a cadet and offered me a post in the Cadre of the Golden Feather. A cadre to which I still belong.
My Uncle also introduced me to the Caidian Court, where I learned to be a Courtier, well respected. I served on various Queens Guards and invited to others. I also served as various Baronial and Shire Champions for Rapier. I served the Shire and the Crown as a Persuevant Herald for 3 years, where I greatly expanded the Shire's heraldic library, and developed the herealdic regalia required of the post, all while acting as Secretary to the Caidian Collage of Heralds.
Also, during that time I served as Shire light weapons marshal, and shire Provost Marshal (rapier). I was also a Marshal for armored combat. During that time I autocratted several events and tournaments.
Of course, one must be able to earn a living. While services to the Crown pays well, it's not a steady job, so I also learned the art of woodworking, and brewing of beer to pass the time and compliment the income from various estates inherited from my family.
Time went on, and I eventually was sent to the Kingdom of the Middle as a Royal Ambassador for the Crown of Caid. Upon arriving in this fair land, I determined that this is where I would call home. I have since lost my post as Ambassador (with the changing of Crowns). I have served as Northwoods Baronial Rapier Champion. I have served as Pentemere Regional Rapier Champion. I have served as the Barony of Northwoods and Shire of Talonvale Rapier Marshal. For this and other service, the Crown in this Kingdom has seen fit to award me a Grant of Arms for my contributions to the Rapier Community (I am a Companion to the Order of the Bronze Ring).
I have also autocratted several events and am a warranted herald. I am currently expanding and improving my vast estate in the Barony of Northwoods on the borders of the Shire of Talonvale. I have become a member of the a music troupe called Rutger's Rag Tag Gypsie Band as a drummer. I have also taken on 2 students in the Arte of Defense and Courtly behavior. They would be Lady Corwyna the Coursair and Pan Zygmunt Nadrotowski. I am considering expanding the Cadre of the Golden Feather to this Kingdom and am considering membership at this time. I have limited my activities in Kingdom and Shire business, woodworking, and brewing while improving my estates has become my primary focus.
